The recent wave of products from Ford has been remarkable. The all-new Maverick compact truck has been unveiled, and the F-150 Lightning is poised to revolutionize the market for affordable electric pickups. Even the Bronco, which faced months of delays, is finally making its way to dealerships. And let’s not forget about the game-changing Mach-E, or the popular Bronco Sport based on the Escape platform.

Ford’s luxury division, Lincoln, has been somewhat overshadowed by its parent company, Ford. However, behind the scenes, Lincoln has been diligently working on a plan to reassert its presence in the automotive industry. The unveiling of the Zephyr Reflection concept at the Shangai auto show signaled Lincoln’s intention to evolve its design philosophy and embrace a future that revolves around electrification. Lincoln’s inaugural all-electric model is scheduled for a debut next year, with rumors suggesting it will be a SUV comparable in size to the Aviator. But before this milestone, Lincoln has a multitude of other announcements in store.

Specifics regarding Lincoln’s first Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) remain scarce, except that it aligns with Lincoln’s centenary celebrations. The luxury brand anticipates that by 2025, half of its global sales volume will comprise electrified vehicles. Moreover, by 2030, all of its models will feature electrified powertrains. This translates to four new unique BEVs, all of which will offer either all-wheel drive or rear-wheel drive configurations.

Lincoln

The forthcoming EVs will retain a similar design theme to the aforementioned Zephyr Reflection, but the spotlight today shines on Lincoln’s efforts surrounding the integration of its new electric propulsion systems. Lincoln aims to enhance connectivity in its vehicles through over-the-air updates facilitated by the “Lincoln Intelligence System.” This system will be complemented by a new customer app, offering an array of enhanced connected services, fostering an enduring relationship between Lincoln and its clientele.

The new model will also be equipped with a hands-free driving system akin to Ford’s BlueCruise autonomous highway driving technology named ActiveGlide. Essentially, this system mirrors Cadillac’s Super Cruise functionality. The feature will only be operable on pre-scanned segments of divided highways, with continuous driver monitoring to ensure attentiveness.

Lincoln is evolving its approach to vehicle sales, emphasizing online transactions and revamping its dealership network. According to Lincoln, over a third of its recent sales have occurred online. The brand intends to enhance this approach, similar to its success in the Chinese market. Additionally, traditional retail outlets will be transformed into “Vitrine dealerships,” offering a refined purchasing experience devoid of high-pressure sales tactics, with an ambiance characterized by soft lighting, contemporary furniture, and premium amenities like gourmet coffee. Currently, 28 of these upscale stores are operational, with another 50 in the pipeline.
