The redesigned 2024 BMW X2 marks the second era of Bavaria’s compact “coupe” SUV. Similar to its predecessor, the X2 is essentially an X1 with a more inclined roofline. It is available in the base xDrive28i variant as well as the sportier M35i xDrive, which boasts 312 horsepower.

In comparison to the outgoing SUV, the new X2 is larger – 7.6 inches lengthier (with a wheelbase that’s 0.9 inches more), 2.5 inches taller, and 0.8 inches wider. It also exceeds the current X1’s length by 2.6 inches. Design-wise, it features an X1-style front facia distinguished by a broader, more prominent kidney grille positioned atop a blacked-out section, reminiscent of the style seen on the updated X5 and X6. The rear end, on the other hand, showcases captivating chiseled taillights that recall the pre-facelift G20 3 Series headlights. Reportedly, the X2 offers the largest wheels ever available on a compact BMW, standing at 21 inches.

Causing mild controversy in the newsroom at The Drive are the quad exhaust tips on the X2 M35i, a feature previously reserved for true BMW M series cars.

Internally, the X2 closely resembles the X1. BMW highlights newly designed seats (applicable to both standard and optional sport seats) that offer comfort for long journeys and enhanced support during cornering. Crafted from animal-friendly perforated Veganza, these seats include Alcantara inserts and blue stitching in the M Sport package. The new X2 showcases the brand’s contemporary curved screen infotainment system featuring iDrive 9 on a 10.25-inch central display and a 10.7-inch instrument cluster screen.

Similar to X1, the base X2 xDrive28i is powered by a 2.0-liter turbo-four engine that produces 241 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. It accelerates the car from 0 to 60 mph in 6.2 seconds. If more power is desired, the M35i variant also features a 2.0-liter turbo-four with the same torque but an increased output of 312 horsepower. It hits 60 mph a whole second quicker at 5.2 seconds. Both models come equipped with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

The upcoming 2024 BMW X2 is set to arrive in dealerships in March 2024 with a starting price of $42,995 for the xDrive28i or $52,395 for the M35i.
