Porsche has unveiled the 911 GTS T-Hybrid, demonstrating a notable progression in hybrid technology. The latest 992 GTS merges a turbocharged motor with electric assistance, achieving 0-62mph in less than three seconds. Despite its intermediate status, the GTS now reaches speeds of 193mph and completes a quarter-mile in just ten seconds.

The hybrid setup is not plug-in and cannot operate solely on electric power. It incorporates a 1.9kWh battery, supplying energy to two electric motors. One motor integrated into the eight-speed PDK gearbox contributes an additional 55 horsepower, while the other, a 14bhp unit, enhances the turbo’s efficiency, effectively minimizing lag. The GTS’s solitary large turbo benefits from quick spool-up, delivering a smooth power output.

In the prior GTS model, there existed a two-second delay between throttle input and peak torque. This lag has now been reduced to half a second. Porsche’s engineers have managed to keep the GTS’s weight under 1,600kg, with a final kerb weight of 1,595kg. The 400-volt electrical system also operates the climate control, lessening the strain on the engine and enhancing overall efficiency.

The GTS T-Hybrid is equipped with adaptive suspension that responds quicker due to its robust electronic system. Though there may not be significant handling enhancements, the nose-lifter now functions more rapidly, elevating the front end in a single second. The GTS maintains a modest hybrid identity, with minimal exterior cues besides aero blades on the front bumper.

Internally, the hybrid system remains inconspicuous, with a display embedded in the touchscreen exhibiting battery usage. During regular driving, the vehicle upholds a 70% battery charge, ensuring a consistent boost availability. In Sport Plus mode, the emphasis shifts to performance, draining the battery for maximum power output.

The GTS T-Hybrid, valued from £132,600, offers a variety of configurations, including convertible and Targa variants, as well as all-wheel-drive choices. Porsche’s innovative hybrid mechanism ensures the 911 GTS T-Hybrid maintains its lead in sports car technology, melding performance and sustainability for an unparalleled driving adventure.
