Accompanying this announcement, BMW shared a teaser image showcasing the distinct illuminated grille of the car. The official unveiling is scheduled towards the end of this month.
Both the sedan and wagon models are in the pipeline, yet it remains unclear whether both variations will be introduced simultaneously. However, it has been confirmed that both styles will be available in the United States, unlike the M3 which is exclusive to the U.S. market in sedan form only.
Test models for the M5 sedan and M5 Touring wagon have been sighted, with BMW indicating that the testing phase is nearing its conclusion. This suggests that sales are likely to commence this year, with the new M5 anticipated to be launched as a 2025 edition in the U.S.

Derived from the revamped 5-Series released for the 2024 model year, the new M5 is projected to be the exclusive model in the 5-Series family to house a V-8 engine. Despite the V-8 being the primary power source, it will likely be complemented by an electrical motor integrated within the transmission, specifically an 8-speed automatic.
This particular setup resulted in an output of 644 hp in the BMW XM and an astounding 738 hp in the more track-focused XM Label Red, either of which would signify a boost from the current M5. The outgoing M5 reaches a peak of 627 hp in CS trim. Additionally, with the hybrid setup, a reasonable electric driving range is envisioned.
Although the hybrid technology may bring a substantial weight increase, the performance is still expected to surpass that of the current M5 model. The existing CS version achieves a 0-60 mph sprint in 2.9 seconds and a top speed of 190 mph.
