The Subaru Forester consistently ranks high for individuals seeking a secure and cozy automobile. This remains unchanged with the arrival of the 2025 model. If anything, the latest Forester now stands as my topmost recommendation. The reasons behind this choice include its abundance of advanced safety features, its smooth and relaxing drive, the practical cargo room it offers, and the superb visibility from all angles. Moreover, for 2025, it introduces some appealing technological additions.

At first glance, one might mistake the 2025 Subaru Forester as merely a minor update due to its similar appearance – but this is deliberate. However, in reality, it represents a new generation vehicle with almost everything being revamped.

Let’s begin with security. The enhanced “EyeSight” safety system now offers a broader field of vision, and the overall structure of the 2025 Subaru Forester has been enhanced to meet the latest, more rigorous crash test criteria defined by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

Furthermore, a novel emergency stop assist function has been incorporated to bring the vehicle to a halt and activate the hazard lights if there’s a lack of response from the driver.

Shifting focus to the power unit, one might assume it’s identical as both the 2024 and 2025 models possess a 2.5-liter, 4-cylinder “boxer” engine. However, the 2025 engine has been revised to deliver more torque and a broader torque range. The transmission remains a CVT but now sports updated ratio programming and a wider range. Models equipped with paddle shifters (Sport trim and higher) now feature an 8-speed manual mode (up from 7 in the current model). Even the “Symmetrical” AWD system has been fine-tuned to provide smoother handling and enhanced stability in slippery conditions.

Regarding the exterior design, the familiar upright and boxy profile will resonate with Forester enthusiasts. Nevertheless, the new styling injects a stronger presence without compromising on bulkiness. Additionally, roof rails now come standard across all trim levels. The more upright grille, along with the wrap-around headlights and taillights, modernize the overall appearance without a radical overhaul. The overall impact is more of a gradual progression rather than a complete makeover.

The interior showcases some of the most significant transformations. Across the range, the dash design is visually appealing with pleasing textures and designs. Starting from the Premium trim level, one step above the base variant, you’ll find an upgraded infotainment system featuring an 11.6-inch touchscreen. Advancing to the Sport model grants you leatherette seats and 19-inch wheels. Opting for the Limited trim introduces features like leather seating and a heated steering wheel.

By reaching the Touring level, expect sueded seat inserts, heated-and-ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, and plenty more.

For those keen on vegan options, note that only the base trim lacks any leather components.

Given the complete overhaul and additional features, an increase in pricing is anticipated – and that expectation holds true. The increment ranges from $1,700 to $2,630, based on the model. The breakdown of trims and prices, including destination charges, is as follows:

An option package is available featuring Harmon Kardon premium sound, a power-operated tailgate with foot control, and a feature for automatic braking when reversing.

The Touring Model ($41,390): Takes luxury up a notch with 19-inch aluminum wheels, seating upholstered in leather with suede inserts, a premium Harmon Kardon sound system, front seats equipped with both heating and ventilation, heated rear seats, a memory system offering two driving positions, the “DriverFocus” technology for dealing with driver distractions, a full 360-degree camera view, a rearview mirror with camera display, elegant roof rails, and a system for automatic braking when reversing.

The Base and Touring trims do not come with additional package choices, and there is no confirmation yet about a potential Wilderness edition, but its arrival is highly anticipated.

I got the chance to drive models from both the Sport and Limited trims during the press event. While the Sport variant does feature a firmer suspension, truth be told, the difference between Sport and Limited is not overwhelmingly noticeable. Both provide a smooth ride. We spent considerable time off-road on gravel and unpaved paths, and I was pleasantly surprised by the Forester’s comfortable performance on rough terrains.

On smoother pavements at higher speeds, I was also impressed by the reduction in road and wind noise. Previous iterations had received some criticism for excess external noise seeping into the cabin, but Subaru has done an excellent job minimizing such noise, vibrations, and harshness by incorporating sound insulation and structural adhesive into the Forester’s framework. It’s a noticeable improvement.

Although the engine has undergone some enhancements, don’t expect a significant boost in power for the 2025 Forester. Acceleration is adequate and gets the job done, but I wouldn’t call it lively.

In sum, the 2025 Subaru Forester offers a comprehensive package. With a starting price around $30,000 and a fully equipped model just over $40,000, you receive excellent value for your money – particularly when considering that the average price for a new vehicle these days is approximately $48,000.

Subaru enthusiasts tend to appreciate the simplicity of their vehicles, so the classic analog gauges and retro-style visuals may not be a drawback. The vehicle is equipped with the right technology in key areas, such as a large screen and wireless connectivity for Apple CarPlay/Android Auto. Additionally, the low cargo loading floor, standard EyeSight safety features, and overall comfort combine to create a winning formula.

Lastly, I had the opportunity to test drive the 2023 Dodge Hornet GT Plus!
