Upcoming in 2022: The Genesis GV70 Small Crossover is set to Provide Two Turbocharged Engines Boasting Up to 300 HP

Positioned just below its larger counterpart, the GV70 presents itself as a more compact offering compared to the automaker’s first SUV, the GV80. Nonetheless, it perfectly fits into a growing segment driven by new vehicle buyers. With scaled-down proportions from the GV80, the GV70 retains a powerful engine option seamlessly.

The U.S.-bound GV70 will come with a choice of two engine setups: a 2.5-liter four-cylinder generating 300 horsepower, and a more potent 375-horsepower twin-turbo V6. The V6 variant boasts an extra turbo and a liter more displacement. Non-U.S. markets could also see a 2.2-liter diesel, although Genesis has no immediate plans for this option in the states.

The GV70 was already recognized for its appealing design and now looks to deliver a spirited driving experience while maintaining its luxurious essence. An optional sport package enhances the visual appeal and introduces a “Sport Plus” driving mode to complement its rear-wheel-drive setup.

Those opting for the sport package can expect to augment the crossover’s bold aesthetics with sporty attributes that strike a balance between simplicity and flair. Changes in grille, bumper design, accents, and wheels are planned, as with the futuristic yet vintage-inspired interior that features a customized steering wheel, carbon fiber accents, and varied color options.

Turning to the interior, the Genesis GV70 shines with its tech-infused cockpit, offering an array of futuristic features such as a new fingerprint authentication system and rear occupant sensors using radar to detect any presence, ensuring safety.

It remains to be seen which international features will make it to the U.S. model, but a glimpse at the Korean website reveals potential inclusions. The fingerprint system may allow various functions like unlocking, starting, accessing services, and even payment through Genesis CarPay. Additionally, a 3D gauge cluster and an infotainment system using augmented reality for navigation are noteworthy.

The GV70 exemplifies Genesis’ departure from past perceptions as a budget brand associated with Hyundai. By infusing tech elements into the cabin and offering a robust twin-turbo engine, Genesis is evolving its brand image.
