Law enforcement agencies across the globe are recognized for utilizing high-performance sports cars and luxury vehicles for law enforcement purposes. A Nissan GT-R was incorporated into a Japanese highway patrol unit, Alpine A110s were designated for “rapid intervention” in rural France, and a Lamborghini Huracan was instrumental in expediting organ transport in Italy. And then, of course, there’s the renowned police fleet of Dubai that comprises Bugattis, Lamborghinis, McLarens, and Porsches.

Florida Man has now made an entrance.
On May 10, the Miami Beach Police Department introduced a Rolls-Royce Ghost adorned in full departmental livery and equipped with lights. This decision aligns with the perpetual festivity that characterizes the atmosphere of the South Florida hotspot, reminiscent of Art Week and endless spring break.

However, despite its luxurious appearance, this Ghost is a 2012 model designated exclusively for recruitment purposes. Notably, the vehicle is owned by Braman Motors, a local luxury car dealership that is covering all associated expenses in accordance with city regulations.

A promotional police vehicle that serves as a mobile advertisement for a car dealership embodies the essence of Miami, ensuring that taxpayers are not burdened with exorbitant expenses such as $2,000 oil changes.

Critics swiftly voiced their opinions, questioning the department’s financial decisions, maintenance costs, and even suggesting illicit sources of funding for the vehicle, eliciting a mix of amusement and exasperation.

The department’s spokesperson reassured the Miami Herald, “There has been no financial impact on taxpayers due to this vehicle acquisition. Miami Beach residents have not incurred any expenses.” While the Miami Beach Police Department faces no immediate costs, potential damages during the vehicle’s use could necessitate financial responsibility.

Thus, the Rolls-Royce will not engage in high-speed pursuits but will exclusively serve as a recruitment tool. The attention garnered by this initiative, whether positive, negative, or downright comical, undeniably elevates the department’s visibility.
