When it comes to traditional American extravagance, it’s tough to top a stylish custom Caddy. If you appreciate using Ks instead of Cs and plenty of chrome, then this project might capture your interest.
This 1959 Cadillac Eldorado Brougham displayed at Mecum Auctions stands out in the world of custom cars. Known as CadMad, it flaunts a station wagon body, but what’s even more remarkable is that it features only two doors. This classification as a shooting brake is sure to pique the interest of those who adore eccentric and unusual creations.

As per the auction description, the construction spanned 15 years, involved 4,000 labor hours, and cost $2.3 million. With a budget akin to a civic construction project, one would anticipate nothing less than top-notch quality.

From the available details, the CadMad impresses. It showcases a luxurious Fawntana Rose paint finish on its meticulously crafted body, while the roof sports a contrasting Titanium Grey tone for an appealing two-tone appearance. The overall painting expenditure amounted to approximately $300,000. Originally designed by Pininfarina, the bodywork underwent significant alterations, including an 18-inch reduction in length, 4-inch narrowing, and a 2-inch section reduction in the lower body.

Under the hood resides a twin-turbocharged Warrior Series V8 from Nelson Racing Engines. Generating 1,025 horsepower, this engine, priced at $97,000 alone, is optimized to operate on racing fuel. If you seek substantial power for your custom build, Nelson Racing Engines should indeed be on your radar. Their power units are renowned for producing impressive power outputs while remaining street-friendly. Their previous projects, such as an outrageous GMC Sierra sleeper boasting 2,500 hp, or their twin-turbo V12 Lamborghini endeavor, exemplify their capabilities. It’s worth noting, however, that there might be a break-in period required in this instance, considering the car has only clocked 6 miles.

Internally, a stunning wooden cargo floor crafted from tiger wood, maple, and African wenge is featured. The interior is adorned in rose leather, with reupholstered bucket seats sourced from a Cadillac CTS-V. Every intricate detail is accounted for, including the beautifully machined shifter and Classic Instruments gauges.

Aside from the chassis, engine, and cabin, it’s also a creation of notable distinction. CadMad clinched the 2019 Autorama Ridler Award, a highly sought-after recognition in the sphere of hot rods and customized vehicles. The vehicle was specially commissioned by Stephen Barton to secure that honor, an accolade reserved for unprecedented constructions. Unfortunately, Barton passed away before witnessing this achievement, and Craig Barton accepted the trophy in honor of his late brother.

As viewed on YouTube, CadMad wowed spectators upon entering the auction arena. With the hood and doors open, it exposed the intricate details of the engine compartment and interior. It fetched a substantial sum of $390,000, falling within the expected range of $350,000 to $450,000. Given the investment in its creation, one might consider this a remarkable deal.
