A state vehicle is intended to showcase the automotive prowess of a nation. Unfortunately, the current presidential limousine—a large Cadillac CTS—reflects design concepts that are over ten years old and no longer utilized by General Motors. However, new images of the upcoming limousine, which is in road testing in Michigan, indicate that President Donald Trump may soon receive the latest version known as “The Beast.”
The existing limousine was launched for President Barack Obama in 2009. Originally, the new model, designed to resemble the modern Escalade and CT6, was expected to be ready for Trump’s inauguration in January. However, creating a secure, versatile vehicle has proven to be a complex task, resulting in significant delays that have extended the delivery timeline into his first term.
Recently, spy photographers captured sightings of The Beast 2.0 undergoing tests on the streets of Milford, Michigan, where GM’s engineering facility is located. This marks the first time the limousine has been seen in public, and it is anticipated to have a refreshed appearance when it eventually transports President Trump.
The new presidential limousine maintains a body style reminiscent of Cadillac, reportedly combining elements from the new Escalade, the forthcoming CT6, and the Escala concept, all mounted on a heavy-duty truck frame. Previous images suggest that it is longer and wider than a Chevrolet Suburban and nearly as tall. While it may not have the nostalgic elegance of the Lincoln Continental from the Kennedy era, it signifies a move in a positive direction after years of uninspired designs limited by post-9/11 security requirements.
Like its predecessor, The Beast 2.0 will be equipped with advanced armor, safety systems, communication technology, and several classified features to protect the president in any situation. The current model includes bulletproof windows that are 5 inches thick, a bomb-resistant undercarriage, concealed tear gas cannons, and night-vision cameras, with the entire vehicle weighing approximately 20,000 pounds.
As reported by Fox News, the target completion date for the new limousine, according to General Motors’ schedule, is set for October 31—just in time for Trump to take his children trick-or-treating..
