In the upcoming season 24 of Top Gear, producers have selected a 2017 GT86 for the Star in a Reasonably-Priced Car segment. This marks a notable upgrade from previous vehicles like the Suzuki Liana and the Chevrolet Lacetti. The GT86s used in this iconic segment have undergone minor modifications, including the installation of a roll cage, along with the removal of carpets and rear seats.
The Toyota GT86 comes equipped with a 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder engine that produces 205 horsepower and is paired with a 6-speed manual transmission. Given its relatively light weight of 2,760 pounds, show guests can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in about 6.4 seconds, provided they are skilled with manual shifting. To heighten the thrill, the GT86 features a track mode that adjusts the traction control, enabling drivers to fully unleash the car’s capabilities. This season also marks the debut of the first rear-wheel-drive car in the Star in a Reasonably-Priced Car segment.
Season 24 of Top Gear is set to premiere in the United States on March 12.
