Aston Martin CEO Andy Palmer has expressed a strong desire to eliminate any scalpers attempting to profit from the resale of the much-anticipated Valkyrie hypercar. However, evidence has emerged of a UK supercar dealer engaged in this very practice.
The dealer, Knight International from London, has listed an Aston Martin Valkyrie build slot on the German platform Mobile for a staggering price of 3 million euros, equivalent to $3.54 million at current exchange rates. However, upon examining the listing’s details, it becomes clear that the 3 million euro figure is labeled as a “guide price.” The actual price will only be disclosed “upon application.” Given that the factory price for the Valkyrie is estimated at $3.2 million, the dealer’s strategy seems to suggest that the potential profit margin could be more significant than the seemingly modest $240,000.
According to the listing, the Valkyrie is expected to be delivered sometime in 2019. The description notes that “interest (and value) of this car is anticipated to sharply increase shortly before delivery,” emphasizing the rarity of owning a build slot as a prime investment opportunity in this elite, next-generation hypercar.
While the idea of making extra money can appeal to many, reading that statement raises concerns about the ethics of such scalping practices..
