A few days ago, we reported that buyers of Corvettes could save up to $8,000 on a new Z06 or Grand Sport. It appears, however, that Chevrolet’s renowned sports car is not the only model offering substantial manufacturer discounts at the moment. Mazda is providing up to $2,000 off the 2016 MX-5 Miata, as detailed by CarsDirect.
But there’s a catch—or rather, a couple of them. The bulk of this discount amounts to $1,500 available specifically for Miata buyers located in the western states of the U.S. However, flights from almost anywhere in the country to California can be found for significantly less than that. So, those in the East shouldn’t feel excluded if they’re eager to grab an MX-5. Additionally, current Mazda owners can receive $500 in loyalty discounts, totaling $2,000 off a vehicle that starts at $24,915. And that’s before negotiations with the salesperson begin.
According to CarsDirect, the reason behind this discount is the introduction of the targa-topped Mazda MX-5 Miata RF for the 2017 model year. The much-anticipated arrival of these sporty models is prompting dealerships to expedite the sale of the 2016 versions in order to make room for the 2017 Miatas. Given that the roadster MX-5 largely remains unchanged between these model years, this strategy seems beneficial for all parties involved.
There is one final stipulation: buyers must purchase their 2016 Miata before May 1st. If the arrival of spring and its blooming flowers don’t already have you daydreaming about convertibles and weekend drives, perhaps it’s time to dive into Consumer Reports instead.
