Car accidents are serious events—one moment you might be refueling, and the next, you could find yourself in a dangerous situation. No matter how an accident unfolds, having a sturdy and well-engineered vehicle is crucial for ensuring the driver can escape unharmed. Thankfully, in this incident, a driver managed to walk away unscathed after his rented Tesla Model X was hit by a stolen car.
Earlier this month, John Tran was on the verge of experiencing one of life’s most joyous yet nerve-racking occasions: his wedding. To prepare for the big event, he rented a Tesla Model X and enjoyed driving the impressive electric vehicle the night before his nuptials. After packing up following his rehearsal dinner, he bid farewell to his fiancée until the next day.
As Tran was leaving the parking lot, his Tesla was struck by another car traveling at approximately 65 miles per hour. The impact pushed the Model X between 20 and 30 feet from where it had been parked, but remarkably, all individuals involved emerged without serious injuries. The driver of the other vehicle fled the scene on foot and remains unidentified.
Tran managed to exit his vehicle, but he soon found himself in the emergency room with various injuries, including some bumps and bruises and a torn ligament in his right hand. Despite the ordeal, he persevered, recovering in time to rewrite his vows and celebrate his marriage the following day.
Tesla takes pride in its safety features. In 2013, the Model S achieved the highest safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) ever awarded. The Model X nearly matched that success in the SUV category, thanks in part to its low center of gravity from its battery placement.
This morning, Tran also shared his story on Tesla Motors Club, offering additional photos of the accident. Fortunately, he reports that all is well with him as a newlywed. Tran expressed hope that his story will reach Tesla CEO Elon Musk and the team to highlight the impressive engineering of the vehicles. He has decided to sell his current collection of cars and invest in a Tesla as his next vehicle.
