Bentley Updates its Flagship SUV: The 2021 Bentayga
After five years of offering luxury, Bentley has finally refreshed its top-selling model, the Bentayga. The 2021 version showcases a complete redesign, both inside and out, to align with the brand’s latest design philosophy and technological enhancements.
The updated Bentayga features a revised front and rear that mirror the sporty aesthetics of the current Continental GT. Many fans will welcome this bolder look; however, the Continental GT’s oval tail lights may appear somewhat out of place on the SUV’s more angular body. In addition to the aesthetic updates, the Bentayga now comes with new 22-inch wheels and a wider rear track, increased by 0.78 inches, enhancing its aggressive profile.
In terms of practical improvements, the new Bentayga incorporates heated, wet-arm windshield wipers equipped with 22 washer jets each—twenty more than what’s found in the 2012 Toyota RAV4. This innovation reflects a commitment to luxury and functionality.
Inside, Bentley claims the cabin is now even more exquisite than its predecessor. The redesigned center stack, resembling wings, features new center vents, a revamped steering wheel, and an all-digital instrument cluster. The interior also boasts fresh door trims and more sculpted seats. For added luxury, buyers can now opt for dark tint diamond brushed aluminum trim—a first for Bentley. Additionally, rear legroom in the four-seat configuration has increased by nearly four inches. There are also options for five-seat and three-row, seven-seat configurations, although those truly committed to the Bentley lifestyle might prefer to order an additional four-seat version instead.
The new infotainment screen has been harmoniously integrated into the dashboard. With a size increase to 10.9 inches from the previous model’s eight-inch display, it now supports standard wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Rear-seat passengers will enjoy a more advanced, larger control tablet, reminiscent of the Flying Spur.
Under the hood, the “base” model of the 2021 Bentley Bentayga is powered by a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8, delivering 542 horsepower and 568 pound-feet of torque. It accelerates from zero to 60 mph in just 4.4 seconds and has a top speed of 180 mph. Later this year, Bentley plans to introduce plug-in hybrid and W12-powered Speed variants, expanding the Bentayga’s offerings.
This latest update not only enhances the Bentayga’s aesthetic appeal but also reinforces Bentley’s reputation for combining luxury with cutting-edge technology.
